How can I access digital archival collections held by The People’s Archive?

Much of our digital material (including photos, maps, newspapers, interviews, performances, posters, zines, and more) is available through Dig DC, our online digital collections portal. Additionally, we have several web archive collections documenting D.C. history and culture that are made available through the Internet Archive. However, some of our digital collections must be accessed on site at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library due to copyright restrictions or technical requirements of the files themselves.

In our finding aid catalog, collections that contain digital components are usually indicated with a note under the title that reads “external hard drive,” followed by an identifying number. Some of these finding aids include a link to Dig DC, meaning that they are accessible online. Those that do not have a link to Dig DC may require an in-person visit to The People’s Archive. To access these materials, please email us at peoples.archive@dc.gov or call 202-727-1213.
