Can I “visit” the Go-Go Archive and DC Punk Archive? Are they separate from The People’s Archive?

The Go-Go Archive and the DC Punk Archive are two major collections that are part of The People’s Archive, which collects and preserves DC history and culture.  They are not separate entities or places.  The Go-Go Archive was established in 2012 in memory of Go-Go innovator Chuck Brown to honor, preserve, and enjoy Washington DC’s original music genre.  The DC Punk Archive was created in 2014 to document the influential underground music scene in DC past and present.  The collection consists of materials donated by the local music community.  Items in both collections include posters, fliers, individual archival collections, and recordings.

Selected items from the go-go and punk collections are displayed in the permanent Up From the People exhibition on the fourth floor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library.  Please contact us at peoples.archive@dc.gov (202) 727-1213 for more information or schedule an appointment to use the collections here.
