How Do I Search For an Obituary?
Obituary searches can be done using the DC Public Library’s online databases of newspapers (including the Evening Star, Washington Post, and Washington and Baltimore editions of the Afro-American) and other genealogy databases like Ancestry Library Edition and HeritageQuest. From the homepage, click on the Research & Learn tab, scroll through the alphabetical listing and click on the link of the database that you wish to search. A DC Public Library card is required if searches are done remotely. You may search for an obituary without a card at any of the Library's 26 locations. If you do not have a card, you can obtain one here. Please contact us at peoples.archive@dc.gov or (202) 727-1213 for more information.
